Dallas, Tex.Texas Instruments Inc. has introduced what it says is the industry's fastest monolithic 14-bit A/D converter at 400 mega samples per second (MSPS).
The ADS5474 14-bit A/D converter provides 11.1 effective number of bits (ENOB) at this speed, enabling high-bandwidth applications such as test and measurement instrumentation, software-defined radio, radar systems and communication instrumentation that were previously confined to lesser resolution 14-bit A/D converters.
Enabled by TI's proprietary BiCom3 process technology, the ADS5474 integrates an on-chip buffer amplifier to ease analog front-end (AFE) design.
The 400-MSPS sample rate with 70-dBFS signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) through first Nyquist and 69-dBFS SNR through second Nyquist improves transmit power amplifier linearization and efficiency when used in conjunction with a digital pre-distortion algorithm.
It also enables sampling of larger bandwidths in radar systems; allows software-defined radios to implement a greater number of standards with higher sensitivity; and enables 14-bit resolution with 200-MHz bandwidth for high-speed digitizers, spectrum analyzers, test and measurement equipment and general data acquisition systems.
Pricing: $150.00 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
Availability: The ADS5474 is available now in an 80-pin TQFP PowerPAD package (14 mm x 14mm).
