Milpitas, Calif. – Linear Technology Corp.'s LTC3406B-2 is a synchronous buck regulator in a ThinSOT package that delivers up to 600 milliamps continuous output from a 2.5- to 5.5-volt input.
With its low (1-mm) profile, the high-efficiency, current-mode regulator fits a variety of space-constrained cellular, portable and wireless applications using nickel metal hydride or single-cell lithium-ion batteries, or multicell alkalines. The regulator can generate an output down to 0.6 V, so it can also be applied to low-voltage DSPs. The chip runs at 2.25 MHz and with small external filtering elements will keep switching noise out of critical AM radio and xDSL frequency bands.
The regulator, stable with all ceramic capacitors, uses internal synchronous switches with an on-resistance of 400 milliohms. The chip is available from stock in a five-lead ThinSOT. Pricing starts at $2.10 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
