8:1 multiplexer supports Hi-Speed USB applications

Sunnyvale, Calif.—Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX4999 differential, 8:1 multiplexer for Hi-Speed USB (USB 2.0) applications.

This device switches between eight USB hosts and a single peripheral at data rates up to 480-Mbit/s, enabling users to access data through the front panel of the server chassis. To enable this performance, the MAX4999 features low, 6.5ohm (typ) on-resistance and low, 3pF (typ) on-capacitance. Additionally, an integrated charge pump improves performance by allowing signal levels greater than the supply voltage. Consequently, the MAX4999 is ideal for applications such as servers, RAID, mass storage, and workstations.

To minimize power consumption, the MAX4999's enable input can be driven low to place the device in standby mode, thus shutting off the charge pump. In addition, the enable pins of two MAX4999s can be connected together to form a 16:1 multiplexer, while still supporting Hi-Speed USB data rates.

The MAX4999 operates from a single +3.3V supply, and is fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range. It is available in a 5mm x 5mm, 32-pin TQFN package.

Prices start at $3.00 (1000-up, FOB USA).
