Sunnyvale, Calif. Maxim Integrated Products Inc.'s high-speed, 14-bit simultaneous sampling analog-to-digital converters (A/D converters) offer ±10-V, ±5-V, and 0-V to 5-V inputs in a 48-pin TQFP.
Maxim is introducing three new families of A/D converters: the MAX1316/MAX1317/MAX1318, MAX1320/MAX1321/MAX1322, and MAX1324/MAX1325/MAX1326. These 14-bit A/D converters feature 0-V to 5, ±5, and ±10-V analog inputs. The 0-V to 5-V versions (MAX1316/MAX1317/MAX1318) provide ±6-V overvoltage fault protection, while the MAX1324/MAX1325/±5 and ±10-V devices (the MAX1320/MAX1321/MAX1322 and MAX1326, respectively) provide ±16.5-V overvoltage fault protection.
These new A/D converter families offer suitable dynamic performance: spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR); 93 dBc, signal-to-noise distortion ratio (SINAD); 76 dB and DC accuracy; ±2 least significant bit (LSB) integral non-linearity (INL), ±1 LSB differential non-linearity (DNL).
Packaged in a 7mm x 7mm, 48-pin TQFP, these ICs are the smallest A/D converters in their class, according to Maxim. Compared to competitive 4-channel simultaneously sampling A/D converters and even Maxim's previous 4-channel simultaneously sampling versions, the MAX1316/MAX1320/MAX1324 sample up to eight channels simultaneously. All the new A/D converters offer bipolar inputs without negative supply requirements, and give a 2.5x improvement in sampling rate while reducing the footprint by 2.3x.
The devices are available in 8-channel (MAX1316/MAX1320/MAX1324), 4-channel (MAX1317/MAX1321/MAX1325), and 2-channel (MAX1318/MAX1322/ MAX1326) versions. These A/D converters integrate a high-speed 15-MHz parallel interface, internal 2.5-V reference, and an internal or external conversion clock. The MAX1316-MAX1326 family converts two channels in 2μs or eight channels in 3.8μs, and has an 8-channel throughput of 263 kilo samples per second per channel. These devices accept bipolar or unipolar inputs while operating from a 5-V analog and 2.7-V to 5.25-V digital supply. A first-in/first-out (FIFO) reduces interface overhead and allows conversion results to be read at the end of the conversion sequence or between conversions. The devices operate over the extended (-40° C to +85° C) temperature range.
