Adjunct SOC for power amplifier performs complex signal processing in RF domain

Sunnyvale Calif.—Scintera Networks Inc. has developed an adaptive RF power amplifier linearizer (RFPAL) system-on-chip (SoC) that operates directly at the carrier frequency.

Dubbed SC1887, Scintera's latest chip provides low power consumption of 0.5 to 1.1-W, an operating frequency range from 600 to 3000-MHz, >30 MHz signal bandwidth, and a temperature range of -40 to +85°C.

Packaged in a small form factor, 9×9 mm plastic package, the SC1887 can be implemented in less than 625 sq mm of board space and can be integrated directly into power amplifier modules.

Consuming less than 600 mW, the SC1887 is well suited for lower power transmitters such as those being widely deployed in distributed 4G networks. Operating over the full range of frequencies covering all major cellular infrastructure bands, the SC1887 supports a broad range of modulation standards such as CDMA, WCDMA, TD-SCDMA and OFDMA (WiMax, LTE).
