Each week, the Planet Analog section of the print version of EETimes features two small text boxes, entitled “Also of Interest” and “Elementals”, in addition to one or two feature articles, an editor's column, and new products. Each of these boxes cites items from publications outside the Planet Analog and EETimes portfolio. The first box highlights a few items of general interest to the engineer, while the second highlights some basic and tutorial electronic-engineering material.
In this week's print edition (February 25, 2008) you'll see these items (note: there are also links to previous weeks' editions, at the bottom):
Also of Interest
- NASA employs adiabatic demagnetization to cool a space-based spectrometer:
“Scanning for ideas: A space-age refrigerator,”
Machine Design , December 13, 2007 - The idea of integrated optics was born as a logical extension of integrated electronics:
“PHOTONIC FRONTIERS: INTEGRATED OPTICS: Metananocircuits can operate at optical frequencies,”
Laser Focus World , December 2007 - You might think that the venerable brush-dc motor is on the decline, but not so:
“Oceanic probes float free–thanks to a brush-dc motor,”
Machine Design , December 13, 2007
Elementals
- Development and deployment of millimeter-wave-based technology for remote-sensing applications in vehicles:
“Remote Sensing Technology for Automotive Safety,”
Microwave Journal , December 2007 - Combine EM simulation with circuit simulation for a powerful platform:
“Complex antenna system simulation uses EM software,”
RF Design , December 2007 - Predict resonances inside microwave modules, to avoid poor performance and instability:
“Predicting Probable Cavity Resonance with a 3D EM Tool,”
High Frequency Electronics , January 2008, (pdf page 20)
