Analog mux parts claim reduction in signal feed-through

Milpitas, CA –Intersil Corp.'s new multiplexer/demultiplexers – an 8, 4 and 2-channel device – claim substantial reductions in off-state feed-through and leakage current. The parts include the ISL84051 8-channel multiplexer/demultiplexer, the ISL84052 4-channel differential multiplexer/demultiplexer and the ISL84053 triple 2-channel multiplexer/demultiplexer (effectively, three bi-directional single-pole double-throw, SPDT, switches in the same package).

They all claim a 99 percent reduction in off-state leakage current and a 99 percent reduction in off-state signal feed-through ” at least, compared with Intersil's previous-generation switches. With a 5-V supply, the leakage current is typically 2 pA at +25 degrees C less, than 5 nA over industrial temperature range (-40 to +85 degrees C). The off-state signal blocking is better than 90 dB at 100 kHz and 75 dB at 1 MHz.

Each of these new multiplexers ” a line Intersil calls “MightyMUX” – provides an easy upgrade path from older-generation industry-standard families, the company said, and readily support a wide variety of demanding audio, video and medical/industrial applications.

Operating from a single +2 V to +12 V (+15 V max) supply or +/-2 V to +/-6 V dual supply, the ISL84051, ISL84052 and ISL84053 are designed to accommodate rail-to-rail analog signals for maximum dynamic range. R(ON) is less than 100 Ohms (60 Ohms typical) at +/-5 V and +25 degrees C for all devices. Channel matching is better than 6 Ohms, greatly minimizing signal variance from channel to channel. R(ON) flatness per channel is less than 15 Ohms across the industrial temperature range and full signal swing which significantly reduces signal distortion.

All digital selector inputs have 0.8 V to 2.4 V logic thresholds, ensuring TTL/CMOS logic compatibility when using a single +5 V or +/-5 V supply. Other precision specifications include fast switching speeds of t(on) = 90 ns and t(off) = 60 ns with a +5 V supply. Charge injection is typically 2 pC at 25C. The R(ON) “flatness” is less than 15 Ohms across industrial temperature range.

The ISL84051, ISL84052 and ISL84053 are available now. The suggested resale price for each IC in 100- to 999-unit quantities is $0.59 for the ISL84051IB, ISL84052IB and ISL84053IB in a 16-lead SOIC package and $0.64 for the ISL84051IA, ISL84052IA and ISL84053IA in a 16-lead NSSOP (aka QSOP) package. Both the SOIC and NSSOP packages are rated for a temperature range of “40 to +85 degrees C and are available on tape & reel.
