Analog switch enhances audio quality

austriamicrosystems has introduced the AS1747, a dual single-pole/double-throw (SPDT) low-voltage analog signal switch. The first of a family of switches that can handle negative swings; it facilitates audio designs without AC coupling capacitance.

Considered 'an ideal match for low-power, negative-swing capable audio amplifiers,' austriamicrosystems claims that the device can improve signal quality by removing the AC coupling capacitors of the speaker, the main source of audio pop noise.

The AS1747 combines an on-resistance of 0.4 with channel-to-channel matching of less then 0.03, minimising the amount of signal deviations between channels. On-resistance flatness of 0.25 leads to a total harmonic distortion (THD+N) of 0.01%, resulting in improved audio signal quality.

The AS1747 needs a single 1.8V to 5.5V power supply and is available in a 10pin 3 x 3mm TDFN package. It is suitable for operating environments ranging from -40 to +85°C.
