Anritsu Corp. has released two software packages offering the world's first signaling/protocol support for the extended HSPA Evolution standard for HSPA (HSDPA/HSUPA) 3.5G mobile terminals as defined in 3GPP Release 7. The MX848001C-12 HSPA Evolution option for Anritsu's MD8480C W-CDMA Signalling Tester and the MX882000C-031 option for the MT8820B/MT8815B Radio Communication Analyzer have been developed to meet the new demands in R&D and manufacturing to support the new HSPA Evolution standard.
These software packages add HSPA Evolution measurement functions to Anritsu's MD8480C targeted at R&D and verification of signaling and protocols, and to the MT8820B/MT8815B used in both R&D and manufacturing stages. Installing the MX848001C-12 option into the MD8480C enables packet connection tests using the HSPA Evolution CPC function for evaluating the connectivity and protocol sequences of HSPA Evolution chipset and mobiles. In addition, installing the MX882000C-031 option in the MT8820B/MT8815B supports tests of RF Transmit and Receiver characteristics and data throughput rates.
These two new software packages offer the world's first R&D and manufacturing support for the HSPA Evolution standard and will help vendors achieve the fastest possible Time To Market for new HSPA Evolution mobiles.
HSPA Evolution is the extended standard for 3.5G HSPA mobile systems, and it improves base station cell capacity, shortens delay times, and cuts mobile-terminal power consumption by supporting Continuous Packet Connectivity (CPC), and also specifies Higher Order Modulation (64QAM) and MIMO (2×2) to achieve higher data rates. Rollout of next-generation HSPA Evolution compliant mobile systems offering rich-content, high-speed, packet-based services such as multimedia streams, is expected in 2009.
To prepare for this engineering R&D teams require test equipment supporting HSPA Evolution R&D and certification, and also urgently need instruments for production lines. Anritsu is the first company in the world to meet this need by supporting HSPA Evolution measurements with its popular MD8480C W-CDMA Signalling Tester and MT8820B/MT8815B Radio Communication Analyzer both used in HSPA mobile terminal R&D and manufacturing.
MX848001C-12 HSPA Evolution for MD8480C
The MX848001C-12 is application software for the MD8480C supporting the CPC function of HSPA Evolution technology. Installing it in the MD8480C enables support for packet connection tests using the CPC function for R&D of HSPA Evolution mobile terminals. It is the ideal solution for signaling tests and protocol sequence evaluation of HSPA Evolution chipsets and mobiles.
The MD8480C is a base-station simulator that functions in the same way as the base stations used by mobile systems, such as W-CDMA, HSPA, and GSM. The protocol sequence for communication between the mobile terminal and base station as well as the network parameters can be freely defined. In addition to the normal communication procedure defined in the standards, it also supports generation of operation faults to emulate real-world connections with base stations. It is the perfect solution for testing mobile terminal functions under various conditions.
MX882000C-031 HSPA Evolution Measurement Software for MT8820B/MT8815B
The MX882000C-031 is application software for the MT8820B/MT8815B supporting HSPA Evolution tests of radio characteristics. Installing it in the MT8820B/MT8815B supports tests of RF Transmitter and Receiver characteristics, throughput at the maximum data rate (from base station to terminal) of 21 Mbps, and call processing in the test loop mode, which are all required for R&D and manufacturing of HSPA Evolution mobile terminals.
The MT8820B/MT8815B is a “one box tester” supporting evaluation of mobile-terminal technologies used worldwide, including W-CDMA/HSPA, CDMA2000 1X/1xEV-DO, GSM/GPRS/EGPRS, and TD-SCDMA. Installing dedicated hardware and software packages for each technology permits this all-in-one tester to perform all the key tests of world mobile terminals, including call processing function tests, RF Tx and Rx tests, etc.
The MT8820B supports Anritsu's patented built-in Parallelphone measurement function allowing one unit to measure two mobiles simultaneously. The small-footprint version MT8815B is also available to save valuable benchtop space.
The software packages are shipping from July 11 2008.
