Slight variation on that - use one of those Bourns trimpot diddle-sticks to touch certain nodes - or any similar tiny screwdriver with just a little metal and a long plastic handle. Adds a few pF to the node under test. Then watch for ringing.

Certainly the power on/off transients will shake things up. That's the easy way to whack the [possibly] resonant circuit and see if it rings. Touching parts of the circuit w/ a finger is sort of like that, tho' rather more tedious of a process. Got to find the sensitive node.
