Avago delivers tiny FETs for multiple wireless apps

Avago Technologies' new low-noise VMMK-1218 and -1225 FETs measure just 1.0×0.5×0.25mm and occupy less than 5% the volume of a standard SOT-343 package.

The ultra small, low-profile discrete devices leverage Avago's chip-scale packaging technology that enables miniaturization of transistors with high-frequency operation and superior thermal dissipation.

The FETs do not require negative voltage to operate, which results in lower costs and ease of use for RF designers.

The VMMK-1225 supports 0.5 to 26.5 GHz frequency ranges with a noise figure of less than 0.95 dB and 12 dB available gain under 50 ohms conditions at 12 GHz. The FET also offers 23 dBm output third-order intercept and 8 dBm output power.

The VMMK-1218 operates from 0.5 to 18 GHz with a noise figure of less than 0.85 dB and 9 dB available gain under 50 ohms conditions at 10 GHz. The FET also offers 22 dBm output third-order intercept and 12 dBm output power.

The size and performance of these transistors make them suitable for numerous wireless applications, including commercial radios, UWB, radar, base stations, military communications, RF sensors, WiMAX, satellite communications or any DC-26 GHz application requiring small-sized components.

Pricing for Avago Technologies' VMMK-1218 and -1225 begin at $1.19 and $1.32 respectively in 1000-9999 quantities.
