In 2007, the University of Arizona took over the management of Biosphere 2 from Columbia University which ran it from 1996 to 2003.
Please click on the slide below to see this slideshow of the EDN exclusive Biosphere 2 visit I had behind-the-scenes for my EDN technical article series and Planet Analog blogs regarding the sensors, science, and technology of Biosphere 2.
The University of Arizona uses Biosphere 2 as an adaptive tool for increasing general scientific literacy through outreach to industry, government, and the general public. Additionally, Biosphere 2 catalyzes interdisciplinary thinking and understanding about our Earth and its future and helps distill issues related to Earth systems planning and management for use by policymakers, students, and concerned citizens.
