Bipolar junction transistors offer fast switching, low saturation voltage

San Jose, Calif. — Fairchild Semiconductor has introduced 3-A and 5-A bipolar junction transistors (BJT) with ultra-fast switching and low saturation voltage that contribute to energy-savings in electronic ballast, power supply and industrial designs.

The FJD5555 BJT's saturation voltage is as low as 0.5 V and the FJD5553 is as low as 0.23 V typical which is 50 percent lower than industry alternatives, Fairchild said. Both the FDJ5555 and the FDJ5553 feature a high breakdown voltage (1050 V), which is particularly important for lighting applications. These transistors are packaged in ultra-compact DPAK packaging (64 mm2) to conserve space in electronic ballast and power supply designs.

The FJD5555 and FJD5553 use lead-free (Pb-free) terminals and have been characterized for moisture sensitivity in accordance with the Pb-free reflow requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020. All of Fairchild's products are RoHS compliant.

Pricing: The FJD5553 is priced at $0.352 and the FJD5555TM at $0.41, both in quantities of 1,000.
Availability: Samples are available now. Delivery is eight to ten weeks ARO.
Datasheets: FJD5555 and FJD5553
