Clock synthesizer enables one-time-programming

Sunnyvale, Calif. — Maxim Integrated Products says this cost-effective voltage-controlled crystal oscillator (VCXO) clock generator for communications systems such as routers and switches only needs to be programmed once.

A one-time-programmable (OTP), read-only memories (ROM) allows programming of the phase-locked loop (PLL) output, which eliminates the need for programming the output frequencies after each power-up cycle.

The MAX9491's integrated PLL architecture uses a crystal or reference clock to generate clocks from 4 MHz to 200 MHz. The integrated VCXO can track the input reference by ±200 ppm.

The factory-programmable, single, clock synthesizer MAX9491 is available now in a 20-pin TQFN. Contact Maxim for availability of a 14-pin TSSOP package version. The device operates from a single +3.3-volt supply and over the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C).

Pricing for the MAX9491 begins at $1.10 (1000-up, FOB USA). Click here for the MAX9491 data sheet.
