Sunnyvale, Calif.—Maxim's MAX9450/MAX9451/MAX9452 clock generators integrate a VCXO, PLL, and buffer to provide a compact and cost-effective one-chip solution for the timing chain in SONET and SDH data-communications systems and base-station applications.

The MAX945x, which can be driven from a 8 kHz to 500 MHz input (reference clock), drives outputs up to 160 MHz, depending on the crystal frequency. The chip features low-output jitter—less than 0.8 ps rms (in a 12 kHz to 20 MHz band) and phase-noise attenuation is greater than -130 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz. The device is available with LVPECL (MAX9450), HSTL (MAX9451), and LVDS (MAX9542) outputs, respectively.
