CMOS IC drives power MOSFETs, IGBTs

Santa Clara, Calif.—Aimed at tough power switching applications in power systems, IXYS Corp. has launched the 5 series of 2A to 14A low-side gate drivers.

The first two devices in the 5 series are the IXDR502 and IXDS502, which are manufactured using IXYS' proprietary CMOS technology. The 5 Series low-side gate drivers offer enhanced latch-up protection, improved input hysteresis and capacity to handle reflection currents up to the maximum current ratings. For more circuit flexibility, the 5 Series low-side gate drivers offer a wide operating voltage range from 4.5V up to 30V.

Using the 5 Series low-side gate drivers eliminates the need for Schottky diodes due to the improved latch-up protection (rated up to the devices' max source current rating). The 5 Series low-side gate drivers are suitable for driving transformers since they can source/sink the same peak current levels.

IXYS is offering a wide selection of the low-side gate drivers. Currents include 2A, 4A, 9A, and 14A. The 5 Series low-side gate drivers are offered in a number of different packages, including the 8-lead SOIC, 8-pin DIP, and new 4x5mm DFN.

The IXDR502D1B and IXDS502D1B single output 2A drivers are offered in an ultra small 2x2mm DFN to decrease board footprints and increase density.
