Crosspoint switches provide low jitter under stressful bit pattern conditions

Newport Beach, Calif.—Designed to provide improved temperature and jitter performance in broadcast video and data communications applications, Mindspeed Technologies Inc.'s 144×144 and 72×72 crosspoint switches integrate an improved version of the company's patented Amplif-Eye signal-conditioning technology.

The M21151 144×144 3.25 Gbit/s crosspoint switch is optimized for demanding broadcast video applications by providing a low jitter performance under stressful bit pattern conditions. The M21161 144×144 and M21141 72×27 crosspoint switches support data rates up to 4.25 Gbit/s with improved jitter and temperature-rating performance suited for large storage, blade server and networking equipment designs.

The M21151, M21141 and M21161 crosspoint switches feature a fully non-blocking switch core programmed through a flexible port interface. The proprietary switch design provides the necessary channel-isolation capabilities to eliminate crosstalk interference while maintaining low power consumption. The protocol-agnostic switches support any combination of video, Fibre Channel (1x, 2x, 4x and 10x), SONET, Infiniband, Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet traffic and SMPTE SDI video.

The crosspoints offer programmable output pre-emphasis to boost the high frequency content of the output signal using amplitude and duration settings and programmable input equalization to remove deterministic jitter from the signal, thereby reducing the overall system cost and increase system design margin.

The crosspoints also include Mindspeed's PowerScaler power-conservation technology from a single low power source, which further reduces already-low power consumption by enabling unused portions of the devices to be turned off either manually or automatically without host overhead or intervention.

Pricing: In OEM quantities of 1000, the M21151 is $1100, the M21161, $1250, and M21141, $550.
