Current limit switch protects portable devices

Milpitas, Calif. — Sipex Corp. has released the SP619, an 800 mA current limit switch in a SOT-23 package. The SP619 provides fault protection in a wide range of applications such as protecting portable devices from poorly regulated wall chargers or USB sources, and providing point-of-load current limit protection in distributed power systems.

With a 2.5-V to 7-V operating range, the SP619 protects system circuitry by disconnecting the source upon detection of a current greater than 800 mA. When protecting single cell Li-ion portable devices such as cell phones or PDAs, the 2 nA leakage current ensures virtually zero impact to battery life, said Sipex.

The SP619 is available in a lead (Pb)-free, RoHS compliant, 6-pin SOT-23 package in the industrial temperature range.

Pricing: Starts at $0.25 in quantities of 1,000.
