D/A converter guarantees 16-bit linearity

Milpitas, Calif.—Linear Technology Corp. has introduced the LTC2755-16, a quad 16-bit current output D/A converter with six software-programmable output ranges.

The LTC2755-16 guarantees 16-bit linearity (±1LSB (max) INL and DNL) over the industrial temperature range without any adjustment.

Each D/A converter output can be individually programmed through a parallel interface or can be pin-strapped for operation within a single range. A current output D/A converter allows end-users to customize their output amplifiers for optimal performance, depending on the requirements for better DC or AC specifications, lower noise, or higher speed. Applications include multi-channel data acquisition systems and automated test equipment.

The LTC2755-16 is capable of outputting six unique software-programmable (SoftSpan) unipolar and bipolar output ranges up to ±10V. Software programmability eliminates the need for expensive precision resistors, gain stages and switching jumpers by hand. The six SoftSpan output voltage ranges include two unipolar ranges (0V to 5V, 0V to 10V) and four bipolar ranges (±10V, ±5V, ±2.5V, -2.5V to +7.5V). The LTC2755-16 outputs any of the six SoftSpan ranges while operating from a single 2.7V to 5.5V supply, drawing a maximum supply current of 1µA.

The LTC2755 D/A converters are all available in 9mm x 9mm QFN-48 packages.
