D/A converters consume 5 uA

Sunnyvale, Calif. — Maxim Integrated Products Inc.'s 8- and 10-bit dual, current-output digital-to-analog (D/A) converters consume only 5 uA in shutdown mode, and feature parallel outputs that provide up to 60 mA (30 mA each).

Maxim's MAX5548 (8-bit) and MAX5550 (10-bit) dual converters come in a 3 x 3mm TQFN package, and offer a pin-selectable SPI or I²C interface. Both devices operate with update rates up to 10 Msamples/second in SPI mode and 400 ksamples/s in I²C mode.

They are also highly accurate and guaranteed monotonic over the -40°C to +85°C operating temperature range, the company said. These low-cost, current-output D/A converters are suited for PIN-diode biasing, RF attenuator control, and VCO tuning.

The MAX5548/MAX5550 feature a single +2.7 V to +5.5 V supply range and low 200 uA/D/A converter supply current. A software-selectable shutdown feature reduces the supply current to 5 uA (max).

These devices provide a +1.25 V internal reference, but also accept an external reference from +1.225 V to +1.275 V. A digital output allows daisy-chaining of multiple devices, or it may be used for readback in SPI mode. Addressing options allow multiple devices to be connected to the same bus in I²C applications.
