Sunnyvale, Calif. Maxim Integrated Products Inc. introduced 10 low-power, high-dynamic-performance, 12-/14-/16-bit, dual digital-to-analog converters (D/A converters) with update rates up to 500 Megasamples/second.
The MAX5873-MAX5878, MAX5893-MAX5895, and MAX5898 are said to deliver both exceptional dynamic performance up to Nyquist, tight gain, and offset matching. These high-performance D/A converters are optimized for baseband transmit architectures with analog quadrature mixing, phased arrays, and diversity transmit applications.
The MAX5873 (12-bit), MAX5874 (14-bit), and MAX5875 (16-bit) D/A converters feature CMOS inputs and a 200 Msamples/s update rate. With an update rate of 250 Msamples/s, the MAX5876 (12-bit), MAX5877 (14-bit), and MAX5878 (16-bit) devices have low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) inputs.
The MAX5893 (12-bit), MAX5894 (14-bit), MAX5895 and MAX5898 (16-bit) parts have both CMOS and LVDS input options, a 500 Msamples/s update rate, selectable 2x/4x/8x interpolating filters, and a selectable digital quadrature modulator.
All of these pin-compatible D/A converters are intended for single/multi-carrier base stations, broadband communications, cable-modem termination systems (CMTS), direct digital synthesis (DDS), and instrumentation.
At a 200 Msamples/s update rate, the 12-bit MAX5873 delivers 78 dBc SFDR at 16 MHz output frequency while consuming only 255 mW. The MAX5873 features a CMOS input data bus, which can be configured as a dual data port or as a single interleaved data port.
With a 500 Msamples/s update rate, the 16-bit MAX5895 delivers 92 dBc spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) and-100 dBc two-tone IMD at 10 MHz output frequency. It consumes only 1.1 W. The MAX5895 can be used in conjunction with the MAX2022 zero-IF quadrature modulator to enable a four-carrier WCDMA base-station transmitter.
These pin-compatible devices are specified for the extended-industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C) and are available in a 68-pin QFN-EP package. Evaluation kits and transmitter reference designs are also available.
