D/A converters target portable, high-channel count systems

Dallas, Tex.—Texas Instruments Inc. has introduced a family of quad-channel D/A converters with ultra-low glitch (0.15nV-s) and an internal 2.5V reference with 2ppm/C temperature drift and 0.02 percent initial accuracy.

TI's multi-purpose family of 16-, 14- and 12-bit devices is well-suited for portable and high channel count systems in industrial process control, data acquisition and instrumentation applications.

The DAC8564/65 (16-bit) provides ±0.5 LSB differential nonlinearity (DNL) and ± 4LSB integral nonlinearity (INL), which contribute to the high accuracy of the devices. The DAC8164/65 (14-bit) and DAC7564/65 (12-bit) offer a relative accuracy of ±1LSB. Very low power consumption (2.9mW at 3V) and a power down feature (1.3µA at 5V) extend battery life in portable applications.

The DAC8564 and DAC8565 build upon TI's recently released DAC8560 and DAC855x series, which minimize code-to-code output transient voltages (glitch). The low-glitch performance solves the common D/A converter problem of unwanted transient voltages, which cause ringing in closed-loop systems and create harmonic distortion during waveform generation. Wider bandwidth signals are supported by a fast settling time of 10µs to ±0.003 percent of full-scale range.

Each device operates over an extended temperature range of -40°C to 105°C and a wide power supply range of 2.7V to 5.5V. The DAC8564 and DAC8565 are available now in standard-footprint TSSOP-16 packages

Pricing: $14.10 each in 100-piece quantities. The 14-bit DAC8164 and DAC8165 will be priced at $11.60 each in 100-piece quantities and the 12-bit DAC7564 and DAC7565 will be priced at $7.25 each in 100-piece quantities.
Availability: 14- and 12-bit devices will be available in the first quarter of 2008.
