DC-DC converter meets power over Ethernet requirements

A new 260W DC-DC half-brick converter, designed for power-over-Ethernet (PoE) power sourcing equipment and next-generation IP telephony applications, has been introduced by Power-One. The HHS05Z55 operates over a wide input range, 36VDC to 75VDC, to provide a tightly-regulated 53.7VDC 4.85A output, at efficiencies up to 93%.

The HHS05Z55 integrates internal noise-filtering, an input-to-output isolation of 2250VDC, and Basic safety insulation rating to facilitate system compliance to the stringent requirements of IEEE 802.3af. In addition to interface capabilities of remote on/off, remote sense, and output trim, protection features provided are output over-voltage and over-current, under-voltage lockout, and over-temperature.

Regulatory agency approvals include UL60950-3rd/CSA C22.2 60950-00, TUV EN60950:2001, and IEC60950-1:2001. This power-dense product measures 2.40 x 2.28 x 0.42 inches (61.0 x 57.9 x 10.67mm). Pricing is $80 each in quantities of 1,000. Evaluation units are usually available from stock. Production quantities are typically available in six to eight weeks.
