Digital potentiometer sits in 2 x 2-mm package

Sunnyvale, Calif. — Maxim Integrated Products Inc. claims this is the smallest 128-tap, low-cost nonvolatile digital potentiometer around.

The MAX5128's ultra-small, 8-pin, 2 x 2-mm micro dual flat no-lead (DFN) package, 1.5 microamps (max) standby supply current, simple two-wire, up/down interface, and +2.7-volts to +5.25-V single supply make this device especially suited for portable battery-powered electronics, according to Maxim.

The up/down serial interface of the potentiometer (pot) controls the wiper position and programs the nonvolatile memory that stores the wiper position, thus enabling the MAX5128 to power up to an unique, predefined state, the company said.

The MAX5128 potentiometer offers ratiometric and end-to-end temperature coefficients as low as 5 ppm/°C and 75 ppm/°C, respectively. The pot is available with an end-to-end resistance of 20 kilohms, and is guaranteed over the -40°C to +85°C operating temperature range.

Pricing for the MAX5128 starts at 68 cents each (1000-up, FOB USA). Click here for the MAX5128 data sheet.
