Sunnyvale, Calif. Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the DS7505 +/-0.5 degrees Celsius accurate, digital temperature sensor and thermostat with nonvolatile memory (EEPROM). The integration of nonvolatile EEPROM enables this device to power-up with a user-defined configuration and thermostat thresholds. This is in comparison to similar devices that store threshold and configuration data in volatile memory and, therefore, can only power-up in the factory-defined state, Maxim said.
Software and pin compatible with the industry-standard LM75 and Maxim's DS75, the DS7505 is suitable for applications that require high-accuracy temperature sensing such as basestation, telecom, networking, and medical systems.
The DS7505 is factory calibrated to provide +/-0.5°C accuracy over its entire supply voltage range and 0°C to +70°C temperature range. It is +/-2.0°C (max) accurate over its full -55°C to +125°C operating temperature range. Thermometer resolution is reported as user-selectable 9-, 10-, 11-, or 12-bit digital readings that translate to temperature increments between 0.5°C (9 bit) and 0.0625°C (12 bit).
User-defined configuration options include active or standby state, conversion resolution, thermostat mode, output polarity, and fault tolerance. In addition, the nonvolatile thermostat and configuration registers allow the device to power-up and operate as a standalone thermostat with no need to communicate with a microcontroller.
The DS7505 operates from a 1.7-V to 3.7-V supply voltage and can, therefore, be connected directly to low-voltage supply rails. Because the device is function, pin, and software compatible with the LM75/DS75, it is easy to migrate to low-voltage and/or higher precision designs using the DS7505. Communication with the DS7505 is achieved through a standard 2-wire (I2C) serial interface.
The DS7505 is available in a lead-free, 8-pin SO package and an 8-pin microSOP (microMAX) package with an exposed pad.
