DVB-T chip integrates demodulator and decoder

Taiwan — Sunplus Technology Co., Ltd. has introduced its highly integrated DVB terrestrial (DVB-T) system-on-chip (SoC) that integrates a front-end COFDM demodulator and back-end MPEG decoder for DVB-T STB and portable DTV solutions.

The SPHE1003 is said to be among the first single-chip DVB-T STB solutions to deliver digital terrestrial broadcasting reception with multimedia add-on features such as MPEG1/2/4/DivX video decode, MP3/AAC/PCM audio decode, USB and card reader functions.

The SPHE1003 leverages Sunplus' discrete DVB-T demodulator solution for static and mobile applications. In static STB applications, the SPHE1003 is said to offer low power consumption, fast channel scan speed, and good echo performance in single frequency networks as well as multiple frequency networks. In portable DTV applications, the SPHE1003 delivers high-speed reception up to 180 km/h under 16 QAM and 2/3 coding rate conditions.

The SPHE1003 also supports MHEG-5 and DSMCC V1.0.6 UK Middleware for UK DTV and STB applications.

Sunplus will demonstrate the SPHE1003 DVB-T SoC at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Booth #73454, Sands Expo.
