Embedded switches target Fibre Channel storage system back-ends

Costa Mesa, Calif.—Emulex Corp. introduced a family of embedded storage switches named InSpeed that enables complete speed flexibility across Fibre Channel storage system back-ends.

The InSpeed SOC 432 delivers key capabilities to storage system manufacturers, including per-port speed agility, speed aggregation and native SATA disk drive attachment to FC back-ends. The company cited the implementation of FC-SATA, the recently approved addition to the Fibre Channel standard.

The InSpeed SOC 432 is a 4-Gbits/s embedded storage switch family that enables complete speed flexibility across storage system back-ends. Emulex continues to progress Fibre Channel back-ends with advanced capabilities required for enterprise-class storage systems.

Capabilities include 32 or 24 intermixed Fibre Channel or SATA ports; per port speed agility at 4-, 3-, 2-, 1.5- and 1-Gbits/s; bandwidth aggregation for maximum performance; SATA disk drive monitoring with FC-level RAS features; disk drive workload management and SMART support; back-end resiliency with Stealth Intelligent Change Manager; and highly dense switched bunch of disks.
