Entry-level encoder is designed for 3G mobile TV

South San Francisco, Calif. — Envivio Inc. has introduced an entry-level encoder for 3G network operators. The quad-channel 4Caster M4 mobile TV encoder supports multiple bit rates, resolutions and standards in a one rack unit (RU).

Capable of encoding in both H.263 and H.264, and compliant with international mobile video standards including 3GPP and 3GPP2, the telco-grade M4 encoder allows operators to distribute high-quality audio and video to mobile phone and mobile television subscribers.

As an integral part of the Envivio Mobile Series of encoders, the 4Caster M4 offers affordable access to mobile TV encoding for 2.5G, 3G and 3.5G network operators. The M4 is available in multiple configuration options designed to match the requirements of the mobile network.

The 4Caster M4 encoder offers high-density 3GPP and 3GPP2 mobile TV encoding with 4 channels per encoder, and management and output of up to three simultaneous subscriber profiles per channel. The device features advanced rate control including constant bit rate (CBR), capped variable bit rate (VBR) and available bit rate (ABR) encoding modes, along with network-aware bit rate control capabilities with live multi-rate switching.
