With speeds of up to four mega samples per second (MS/s), Texas Instrument's latest 24bit delta-sigma analog-to-digital converter (ADC) is said to be 60 percent faster than its nearest competition. Other important characteristics that suit this to applications that include automated test equipment, medical imaging, scientific instrumentation and test and measurement, are a fast settling time (2.65us latency for 24bit settling accuracy) and wide bandwidth.
The ADS1675, which connects to microcontrollers, DSPs or FPGAs, boasts an AC performance of 103dB of dynamic range at 4MS/s, rising to 111dB of dynamic
range at 125 kS/s. The total harmonic distortion is -107dB. Describing the part's DC accuracy, TI cites a 3ppm integral nonlinearity, 4V/C offset drift and 4ppm/C gain drift.
The dual-path digital filter on this ADC enables customers to optimise bandwidth or latency, depending on application. The ADS1675 comes in a TQFP-64 package, with
evaluation modules for it first available in Q2 2009.
