Pin- and footprint-compatible with existing LM267x Simple Switcher family, a new series of eleven dc/dc switching regulators from National Semiconductor extends the input voltage range and operating frequency, while thinning the package significantly in the z-direction (height). The family members accept an input voltage of 4.5 to 42 Vdc, and provide output currents from 0.5 to 5A, deeding on model. Operating frequency choices are either fixed, or adjustable to 1 MHz.
The ICs are offered in industry-standard 8-lead PSOP packages as well as a new, super-thin 7-lead TO-263 housing. The JEDEC-approved (May 2008) package is more than 50% thinner than the existing TO-263 package, with a height of 2.0 mm versus 4.57 mm, making the ICs well- suited for today's increasingly slim products. In addition, the new, thinner packages offer 10% better heat dissipation (θ jA , and are made with lead-free solder and halogen-free mold compounds. Operating temperature is -40° to +125°C.
