Free software download helps speed A/D converter design

Analog Devices today announced the launch of
its ADIsimADC(TM) software design tool that allows systems designers
to simulate analog-to-digital converter (ADC) performance, speeding
the evaluation and design process. The software is available as a free
download from the ADI website at, or within ADI's ADC USB FIFO evaluation kit (also free) from

Typically, system engineers design a system based on product
specification sheets and then implement a test board to confirm system
performance. With the ADIsimADC software design tool, designers can
now reduce risk during the system design phase by running simulations
across various system parameters and architectures.

Based on proprietary behavioral modeling technology used in ADI's
state-of-the-art design labs, the ADIsimADC software design tool
allows rapid comparison between ADCs operating at various conditions
of temperature, supply voltage, and full-scale input range. System
designers can test their designs earlier in the process, helping to
prevent costly mistakes at the system level. The ADIsimADC software
design tool provides detailed performance variation in ac and dc
performance parameters (SNR, SFDR, ENOB, DNL and INL) for the desired
operating conditions that determine if an ADC will actually meet the
system goals. The designer can then validate the system design by
using the evaluation board for a specific converter.

Virtual ADC Evaluation Tool
Used within ADI's ADC Analyzer(TM), a software package that allows the
customer to capture ADC data and review performance using a real
evaluation board, the ADIsimADC software design tool provides design
engineers with a virtual evaluation board to test system assumptions
against real silicon performance. A design engineer can configure a
system design based on simulations, and then verify desired ADC
performance with the evaluation board. The system engineer can also
gain further knowledge of the system by analyzing real-world effects,
like those from timing nonlinearity (jitter). Furthermore, the
performance of an ideal converter can be compared to that of a real
converter, providing insight as to how these real-world
characteristics affect the overall system performance.

The ADIsimADC software design tool is developed to run on any
Windows-based PC platform. The tool currently supports most of ADI's
newest high-speed ADCs Additional models will be added over time,
allowing ADI's wide range of ADC products to be simulated.
