From Earth to the Moon: July 20, 1969

My good friend, EDN blogger (Living Analog) and former IEEE Executive Committee colleague, John Dunn, saved the following 50 year-old newspapers from the first Manned Moon landing on July 20, 1969 by Apollo 11 heroes. Besides our brave astronauts, there were so many other NASA, Grumman, and other contractor heroes that made it a safe and successful mission in only a span of less than a decade after President Kennedy’s announcement to put a man on the Moon by the end of the 60s decade. We did it! With very early, new technology for the time.

Some other events were recorded on that day as well—read on in this slideshow of front page news from this amazing collection of newspapers by John Dunn.

Many thanks to you and John Dunn for the Newpaper's of the time.  I'm always humbled when I think of the coordinated efforts and skills of the men and women that made that event happen.  Getting it right the first time has always resonated with me.  Can't imagine the mental stress of being on the moon's surface and hitting that switch to lift off and start the return to earth – keeping your fingers crossed and hoping the engineers that work on that did their job well.

Good luck on the new book.  Can't wait!

@MWagner_MA—thanks for your comments. I will let you know when the book is published. The book is really an excellent tribute to those dedicated 'grassroots' individuals that made it happen and it also relates well to the Artemis program and our journeys to the Moon and Mars in the coming years. Incredible stories and experiences.
