Integrated features cut component count in phone line IC

Beverly, Mass. — The newest member of Clare, Inc.'s phone interface IC family for direct access arrangements (DAA) in telephony apps features simultaneous phone line ringing detect and caller-ID monitoring, which simplifies DAA designs for international telephone applications.

These devices, which are the only single ICs available for DAA, are used in foreign exchange office (FXO) ports for Internet Protocol-private branch exchange (IP-PBXs) and voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) gateways, as well as modem equipment, said Steve Andrezyk, Clare's director of marketing.

The latest LITELINKTM III device offers both half-wave and full-wave ringing detect outputs to support most codec and DSP devices.

Telephony systems in specific countries around the world need to detect caller-ID (CID) information before a ringing signal is transmitted. This required additional discrete components in the past. Internal CID and ringing detect circuitry on the CPC5622A eliminates the need for these components, Andrezyk said.

The internal optical barrier of the device separating the phone-line side from the host-side has provided end users with a low noise, low distortion DAA, that meets international regulatory requirements. The increased 3000 Vrms isolation barrier further enhances the surge robustness of LITELINKTM -based OEM equipment.

The phone IC also features high-voltage isolation, proper AC and DC phone line terminations, two-to-four wire hybrid function, and on-hook and off-hook detection.
