Latched sink drivers deliver flexibility through MOS, bipolar mix

Worcester, MA — Allegro Microsystems Incorporated offers the A6800/01, A6821/41, and A6832/33 latched sink drivers for LED displays, gaming and medical systems. Each component in the series offers 3.3 V logic supply capability, data input rates up to 10 MHz, and is RoHS compliant.

The devices are designed as pin-to-pin replacements of the UCN5800/01, UCN5821/41, and UCN5832/33 devices respectively, and offer a combination of bipolar and MOS technology for greater interface flexibility compared to traditional logic buffers and power driver arrays.

The A6800 and A6801 are latched-input BiMOS ICs merging high-current, high-voltage outputs with CMOS logic, including four or eight latches, respectively. The CMOS input section consists of four or eight data ('D' type) latches with associated common CLEAR, STROBE and OUTPUT ENABLE circuitry. The power outputs are 50V/350mA bipolar NPN Darlingtons with low saturation voltage.

The A6821 and A6841 have an eight-bit CMOS shift register, control circuitry, and data latches, with bipolar 50V/500mA current-sinking Darlington NPN output drivers. The combination of CMOS and bipolar outputs makes the A6821/41 applicable to a variety of peripheral power driver applications, while output transient, diodes allow the A6841 to drive inductive loads.

Finally, designed to reduce logic supply current, chip size and system cost, the 32-bit serial-input A6832 and A6833 ICs are high-speed devices for thermal printing, multiplexed LED displays or incandescent lamps with peak current of up to 150 mA. The A6832 has 40V bipolar NPN open-collector saturated output drivers, while the A6833 has 30V bipolar NPN Darlington output drivers.

A6800 prices range from $0.62 to $0.69 in quantities of 10,000; the A6801 from $0.89 to $1.16; the A6821 from $0.95 to $1.00; the A6841 from $1.10 to $1.19; and the A6832 from $3.60 to $3.65. The A6833 costs $2.63 in quantities of 10,000. Click here for the data sheets.
