LDO provides low dropout voltage

San Jose, Calif. — Micrel Inc. launched a 150-mA low dropout regulator with ultra-low dropout of 60 mV for battery-powered products like cell phones, PDAs, notebook computers, MP3 players and digital cameras.

The MIC5306 features ultra-low quiescent current of 16 μA (typical) and 0.01 μA shutdown current. It's also μcap stable and has a wide V-in range of 2.25 V to 5.5 V. The IC offers an output voltage accuracy of ± 2 percent, over the full industrial temperature range of -40°C to 125°C. It offers 1 percent accuracy and extremely low dropout voltage (45 mV at 100 mA).

Equipped with a TTL- logic compatible enable pin, the MIC5306 can be put into a zero-off-mode current state, drawing no current when disabled.

“Designing a low quiescent current LDO without compromising on specifications critical in portable applications is a challenging task,” said Ralf Muenster, Micrel's director of marketing for power products. “The MIC5306 offers industry-leading transient response and low output noise without compromise on PSRR performance, making it an ideal product to power digital logic in portable applications.”

The MIC5306 is currently available in volume in fixed output voltages in thin SOT-23-5 packaging.
