LDO regulators tout ultra-low noise, extend battery life

Unterpremstaetten, Austria — austriamicrosystems has expanded its low dropout regulator (LDO) portfolio with the AS1358/59/61/62 family that delivers noise performance of less than 9 μVrms and up to 92 dB PSRR (at 1 kHz typical). These LDOs are aimed at powering circuits that require a low-noise supply including RF, camera phones, wireless base stations and PA bias supplies, and any battery-operated device.

The AS1358/59/61/62 family, operating from a 2 to 5.5-V supply, targets dual or triple standard-cell and single Li-ion battery powered applications. With a low dropout voltage of 70 mV typical at 150 mA and 140 mV typical at 300 mA (AS1359/62 only) at a low current of only 40 μA typical during operation and 9 nA typical during shutdown, battery life time can be maximized using these ultra-low-noise ICs.

The AS1358/59/61/62 family offers pre-programmed output voltages in the range between 1.4 V to 4.5 V with an output voltage accuracy of 1% (at 300 mA). An additional feature of the AS1361/62 is a power-ok output that signals when the output voltage drops out of regulation.

A digital enabled pin with a turn-on time of only 300 μs allows system-level dynamic power management. The devices offer over-temperature and over-current protection. With the choice of 150 mA (AS1358/61) and 300 mA (AS1359/62) output current, the ultra-low-noise LDO family delivers sufficient power for a wide range of applications.

The AS1358/59 devices are available in a 5-pin TSOT23 package and the AS1361/62 are available in a 6-pin TSOT23 package. The operating temperature ranges from -40° to +85°C.
