LDOs trumpet high PSRR

Milpitas, Calif. — Intersil Corp.'s new family of dual low dropout regulators are said to provide high power supply rejection ratio, low quiescent current, and good performance for noise-sensitive applications like imaging sensors for digital still cameras or cellular phone camera modules, MP3 players and portable medical and instrumentation devices.

“The highest PSRR is necessary to improve image quality, which is increasingly critical as they move toward megapixel resolutions in these applications,” said Andrew Baker, product marketing manager of Intersil's handheld power products group.

Intersil's ISL9000 offers 90 dB PSRR at 1 kHz, and a quiescent current of only 21 μA per LDO typically when active. The output voltage accuracy over temperature is 1.8 percent with a drop-out of 200 mV at 300 mA (typical).

The ISL9000 integrates output voltage sequencing and individual power-on-reset (POR) functions for each output to remove the requirement for separate voltage monitoring/reset circuits. A reference bypass pin is provided for connecting a noise filtering capacitor.

Intersil's ISL9011 and ISL9012 are capable of sourcing 150-mA current from channel one and 300 mA from channel two. These devices are stable with output capacitance of 1 μF to 10 μF with equivalent series resistance (ESR) of up to 200 milliohms.

The ISL9011 and ISL9012 offer PSRR of 70 dB at 1 kHz and quiescent current is typically 45 μA with both LDOs enabled and active. Separate enable pins control each individual LDO output. When both enable pins are low, these devices are in shutdown mode, typically drawing less than 0.1 μA. Output voltage options for each LDO range from 1.2 V to 3.6 V.

All three devices come in a 10-pin, lead free DFN package and are available now. The ISL9000, ISL9011, and ISL9012, are priced at $1.30, $1.10, and $1.15 each, respectively, in 1,000-piece quantities.Click here for the ISL9000 data sheet. Click here for the ISL9011 data sheet.
