Lead-free SPDT GaAs switch targets WLAN applications

Lowell, MA, Mar. 8, 2004 — M/A-COM, a business unit of Tyco Electronics and a leading provider of wireless radio frequency (RF), microwave and millimeter wave components, today announced a new lead-free low-loss SPDT GaAs switch. The MASWSS0115 provides low-loss switching for the transmit/receive function in 802.11b WLAN applications and for low power general-purpose RF applications in a small SOT-363 (6-lead SC-70) package. The MASWSS0115 may be used for other low and medium power switching applications from DC to 3 GHz.

The MASWSS0115 provides switching of the RF common port between two additional RF ports. This switch is a lead-free version of the company's low cost SW-485. With its low loss of 0.35 dB at 2.4 GHz and linearity at +20 dBm input power, the lead-free MASWSS0115 and SW-485 are ideal choices for 802.11b T/R switches. The MASWSS0115 and the SW-485 are appropriate for low power handset and basestation applications that require low insertion loss, excellent return loss, and low cost.

Both switches come in a small SOT-363 package making a transition to lead-free easier for our customers. They also work with positive control voltages as low as 2.3 volts, provide low insertion loss (0.35 dB at 2.4 GHz), excellent VSWR (1.1:1 typical), and good isolation (>20 dB).

The new MASWSS0115 switch and corresponding sample test boards are available for immediate delivery through M/A-COM's worldwide direct field sales force and through authorized distributors. The MASWSS0115 is priced <$0.18 each in quantities of 50,000 and is available on 3,000 piece reels.
