Low-noise, low-dropout, 150 mA linear regulators have small footprint

Sunnyvale, Calif. — Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX8840/MAX8841/MAX8842 ultra-low-noise, low-dropout (LDO), 150 mA linear regulators in a small-footprint 1 x 1.5 x 0.8-mm microDFN package. The MAX8840/MAX8841/MAX8842 operate from a 2 V to 6 V supply, making them optimal for single-cell, Li+ battery-powered applications. Battery time is maximized due to low ground-pin current (40 μA, typical in operation, 50 nA, typical in shutdown). With 11 μVrms of output noise and 78 dB PSRR, the MAX8840 is suitable for powering circuits that require a low-noise supply, including RF, cell-phone cameras, and PA bias supplies.

The MAX8840/MAX8841 support fixed output voltages of 1.5 , 1.8 , 2.5 , 2.6 , 2.7 , 2.8 , 2.85 , 3.0 , 3.3 , and 4.5 V. The MAX8842 allows any voltage between 1.225 V and 4.5 V to be programmed with a resistor-divider. Other MAX8840/MAX8841/MAX8842 features include an active-low shutdown-control pin, overcurrent and thermal protection, and operation over the extended temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.
