Re: Asteroid? Moon? Mars?
@SunitaT0: Yes, everyone targets long term benefits.

Another example was the recent launch of IRNSS 1C satellite on a PSLV 27.   In that project nearly 1000 scientists/technicians worked for 3 months.  There are still 4 more satellites to be done to have a GPS system of India.  So there is job created and then the long term goal, positioning system of its own and a boost to its security.

@sunita: Well you cannot come to a conclusion until its being tested in the practical world itself.

@sunita: Well I do not see anything wrong in that. China has the resources so they have all the right to do so

We do not expect all the decisions to make sense. That is why for all the ills about China, one must give them credit that decisions are not made for political calculations but for market forces.

@fasmicro, China is investing heavily in space exploration ? Do you think its wrong for them to invest heavily in space exploration ?

Re: Asteroid? Moon? Mars?
There is no argument. It is working for some countries. Nevertheless, if I am leader of a developing nation, I wil invest in areas with higher ROI.

@fasmicro, how do you define ROI in this case ? And what other fields you will invest in which will give you higher ROI ? Isn't it good idea to diversify you investments rather than invest everything in higher ROI schemes.

Re: Asteroid? Moon? Mars?

People are arguing about its necessity, but just think the amount of job it creates, tourism growth, innovation and so on.

@amrutah, I totally agree with you. We just think of immediate gains but we forget the long term benefits of such schemes. I am sure all the governments  look at long term benefits rather than short term benefit.
