Nonvolatile voice/audio IC integrates telephony functions

Nuvoton Technology Corp. has introduced the ChipCorder ISD61S00, a nonvolatile voice/audio IC optimized for telephony-based systems. The device provides a digital-audio interface, audio storage interface, macro-scripting ability, and programmability, allowing designers to develop telephony-based systems with audio prompting, multi-language options, and fast, address-free recording/playback of up to 64 minutes.

The ISD61S00 can perform communications functions such as the detection and generation of both DTMF signaling and FSK for Bell 103, Bell 202 or V.23 modem. In addition, it features a PSTN interface, a customer alert signal detector, call progress tone detection, and ring detection.

Other features include echo cancellation, a PCM/I2 S digital audio interface and 16 general-purpose I/O pins that are accessible through the device's SPI ports. Technical specifications include sampling up to 16 kHz, a 90-dB SNR typ, 0.5 W max dissipation and an operating voltage from 2.7 to 3.6 V.

The ISD61S00 is packaged in a 48-pin LQFP and is sampling now, with production scheduled for the third quarter. Pricing is $3.00 in 10k qty.
