Norwood, Mass.—Analog Devices' three new octal ADCs, which include the industry's first such 14-bit, high-speed device, cuts real-estate requirements by 60 percent and power consumption by 10 percent for portable instrumentation and ultrasound applications.
The AD9212, AD9222, and AD9252, which come in a 9-by-9 mm, 64-pin LFCSP, are based on the company's AD9228 high-speed ADC quad design for increasing dynamic range and image resolution in ultrasound equipment. The AD9222 and AD9252 devices support sampling rates up to 50 MSPS (the AD9212 is available in a 65 MSPS version) and provide serial low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) data outputs.
The eight-channel, 10-bit AD9212 and 12-bit AD9222 consume less than 100 mW per channel. Thus they will yield a savings of as much as 5 to 6 watts as compared to competitive offerings in an ultrasound system containing 512 channels. The company says its 14-bit AD9252 offers designers the highest dynamic range for high-performance imaging applications, such as radar and sensitive non-destructive testing.
These devices tout a signal-to-noise ratio of 70 dB to meet medical equipment requirements. Featuring internal data rate multipliers, the converters are designed to offer improved output data flexibility with programmable clock and data alignment, as well as digital test pattern generation using a serial port interface (SPI).
Click here and here for additional information. The devices are currently in sampling. The 40 MSPS AD9212 and AD9222 will be priced at $32 and $44 each, respectively, in 1,000-piece quantities. At 50 MSPS, the AD9212 will be $40, the AD9222 $49, and the AD9252 $54.
