Tokyo, Japan—Oki Electric Industry Co. Ltd. has started to ship in volume the ML8511 ultraviolet (UV) sensor IC that is based on SOI-CMOS technology.
The ML8511 integrates a UV light-receiving element and an analogoutputcircuit on a single chip. According to OKI, this helps to reduce the number of components, cost and size compared to conventional devices. The ML8511 includes an energy-saving standby function, making it well-suited for battery driven portable devices that require low power consumption.
Oki is also releasing a reference board to support customers' product development. The board includes the ML8511 to measure the light density of incident UV light and display a UV index. Once the UV index is measured, the UV level is displayed using LEDs on the PCB.
