Op amps respond to the general-purpose call

Sometimes a “pretty good” op amp is what you need, one that doesn't necessarily excel in any one parameter but is more than sufficient in all the important ones—and at a good price. The LMV82x and TSV85x families from STMicroelectronics strive to fit that bill, as low- power, high-accuracy, general-purpose operational amplifiers.

The LMV82x and LMV82xA feature:

  • Low power consumption: 400 µA maximum at 5 V
  • Low power shutdown mode: 50 nA maximum
  • Low offset voltage: 0.8 mV maximum at 25°C
  • A variety of tiny packages
  • Extended temperature range: -40°C to +125°C
  • Low supply voltage: 2.5 V – 5.5 V
  • Gain bandwidth product: 5.5 MHz

The LMV820, LMV823 and LMV825 include a power-saving shutdown feature that reduces the

supply current to a maximum of 50 nA at 25°C.

For the TSV85x and TSV85xA, feaytures include:

  • Low power consumption: 180 µA maximum at 5 V
  • Low power shutdown mode: 50 nA maximum
  • Low offset voltage: 0.8 mV maximum at 25°C
  • Tiny packages
  • Extended temperature range: -40°C to +125°C
  • Low supply voltage: 2.5 V – 5.5 V
  • Gain bandwidth product: 1.3 MHz

The devices are offered with either industry-standard pinouts or with an added power-saving shutdown feature that reduces the supply current to a maximum of 50 nA at 25°C. The TSV85x and LMV82x ICs can operate at 200mV below zero in common mode, and are capable of withstanding up to 6V in absolute maximum rating, increasing the margin on a typical 5V power supply

Packaging, pricing, and availability : These op amps come in single, dual and quad versions. The dual op amp ICs in both families are available in 2×2 mm DFN8 packages. Prices range from $0.33 to $0.57 (TSV85x) and from $0.39 to $0.86 (LMV82x) in 1000-piece lots, depending on the configuration and package. All parts are already in volume production.
