OVP controllers integrate nFET switch

Sunnyvale, Calif. — Maxim Integrated Products has released the MAX4943-MAX4946/MAX4949 over-voltage-protection (OVP) controllers with an integrated nFET switch These devices provide OVP up to +28 V.

The MAX4943-MAX4946/MAX4949 devices provide over-voltage trip levels from 4.56 V to 8.9 V and under-voltage trip levels from 2.45 V to 4.15 V. Integrating the nFET switch into the device's 2 x 2-mm microDFN package reduces the overall external system component count and required board space. These devices are suitable for space-constrained applications such as cell phones, digital still cameras, PDAs, and MP3 players.

Additional controller features include a 1.7 A (typical) current-limiting function to protect the circuitry against short-circuit conditions, a FLAG signal to notify the processor that an over-voltage or under-voltage fault condition occurred, thermal shutdown protection, ±15 kV ESD protection, and 30 ms startup delay and retry times.

These OVP controllers are specified to operate over the -40°C to +85°C industrial temperature range.
