Portable radio tester delivers one-button operation

Santa Clara, Calif. — Agilent Technologies Inc. has introduced a rugged, portable radio tester that enables one-button testing of FM and SINCGARS (SINgle Channel Ground Air Radio System) radios at both operational and intermediate military testing levels. Delivering advanced diagnostics, the L4600A radio test set's one-button operation reduces training and troubleshooting time for quicker identification and repair of equipment failures, Agilent said.

In addition, technicians can use the built-in spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, signal generator or signal analyzer, depending on testing requirements, to eliminate the need for multiple pieces of test equipment.

The L4600A operates over an expanded frequency range of 2 MHz to 2,500 MHz and features a hot-swappable battery. Full span measurement speed is <17 ms/point and the reference level range is -150 dBm to +100 dBm. The operating temperature ranges from -10°C to +50°C (14°F to 122°F) with a storage temperature of -40°C to +70°C (-40°F to 158°F).

The L4600A features a rugged, weather-resistant design that enables reliable field operation. A magnesium alloy housing provides both a lightweight, durable structure as well as enhanced RF shielding and integrated heat distribution, which is a critical element, since the L4600A is fully sealed (no fans or vents) for advanced dust and moisture protection. A water-resistant rubber membrane over the keypad and display seals out water and dirt.

The L4600A's transflective color display enables users to view data in direct sunlight, darkness and shade. Backlit keys also allow the tester to operate under all lighting and weather conditions.

The test set's architecture is designed for expansion and in-field upgrades, incorporating additional functionality as newer testing technology becomes available, including JTRS radios up to 2.5 GHz.

Pricing: Starts at $14,500.
