Precision CMOS voltage comparators integrate pre-amp, output driver

Sunnyvale, Calif. — Advanced Linear Devices Inc. (ALD) has released its dual precision CMOS voltage comparator series, touting an industry-first integrated precision pre-amp and output driver.

The ALD2331/ALD2331A/ALD2331B series voltage comparators offer ultra-low offset voltages and offset currents. The comparator is built using advanced silicon gate EPAD CMOS technology for high-performance, high-precision analog applications such as low-level signal detection circuits that require low stand-by power and high-output current capability. The EPAD technology also allows ALD to reduce die size and integrate three components in an industry-standard 8-pin SOIC.

The voltage comparator series features a high typical input impedance of 1012 Ω, low input bias current of 10 pA and a fast response time of 750 ns with only 10-mV input step signal. The EPAD voltage comparator also features a low power dissipation of 55 μA and single +5-V or dual power supply operation.

The input voltage of the device includes ground, making it suitable for low-level signal detection with high source impedance. The outputs are open-drain configurations, allowing maximum application flexibility. These features are well-suited for such applications as high-source-impedance voltage comparison circuits, dual-limit window comparators, power-supply voltage monitors, and photo-detector sensor circuits.
