Milpitas, Calif. Linear Technology Corp. claims to have developed the first precision series voltage reference that is available in a 3-lead, 2 x 2-mm DFN package.
These compact devices combine 0.2-percent initial accuracy and 20-ppm drift with micro-power operation and require less than half the space of the SOT-23 package, said Brendan Whelan, Linear Technology's design section lead.
The LT6660 voltage reference accepts input voltages up to 30 volts and can withstand reverse-battery conditions.
The output voltages include 2.5 V, 3 V, 3.3 V, 5 V and 10 V. With a dropout of 900 mV, this device is also practical for precision regulator applications since it can supply up to 20 mA of current. Since it needs no output compensation capacitor, the LT6660 is also suited to applications with intrinsic safety requirements, according to Whelan.
The LT6660 is in full production, with prices starting at 88 cents each in 1,000-piece quantities. Click here for the LT6660 data sheet.
