San Jose, Calif. – Anachip's AP1623 family of fast switching regulators switches at 180 kHz while driving 3 amps. The regulators provide a fixed output voltage of 1.8 V and handle adjustable outputs up to 6 V by adding an external voltage divider resistor network. By supporting a range of input voltages from 2.5 to 14 V, the AP1623 is suitable for portable or mobile applications, according to the company.
An internal p-channel Power MOS can deliver 3-A load current without an external MOSFET. The device's overall regulation is guaranteed at 30-mV tolerance over line, load and temperature. Typical conversion efficiency is as high as 93 percent under specific load conditions.
The AP1623 offers additional features such as current limit, thermal-shutdown protection and on/off shutdown functions. An external signal controls the on/off pin for entering the standby mode. In that mode, the regulator consumes 35 microamps, dropping to 0.5 microamps maximum during power off.
With an operating temperature range of -20 degrees C to 85 degrees C, the device is suited for the on-board power supplies of battery-operated applications such as notebook PCs, PDAs, CD players and digital cameras, Anachip said. It can also convert nickel metal hydride or lithium-ion cells to 3 V/3.3 V and convert ac adapter input to 5 V/3 V.
The AP1623 is packaged in an eight-pin SOIC. All options of the AP1623 series are available now, priced at 80 cents each in quantities of 10,000.
