PWM Step-Up Regulator – for TFT-LCD displays

Intersil introduced the EL7516, a highly efficient and fully integrated boost regulator with a selectable 600kHz or 1.2MHz switching frequency. This boost converter is ideally suited for thin-film transistor (TFT) liquid-crystal displays (LCDs) for computer monitors and TVs, and portable equipment applications such as digital cameras and GSM/CDMA cell phones. The EL7516 is a direct plug-in performance upgrade for many existing regulator sockets. It features a 1.5A integrated FET, which only has 200 milliohms of on resistance. It can operate with supplies as low as 2.5 V, which is required to support the latest generation of notebook designs and can also operate on 5V for monitor applications. The EL7516 also has selectable 600-kHz or 1.2-MHz switching frequency, allowing for the highest efficiencies (greater than 90%) no matter what the input/output ratio. The EL7516 has 600 kHz or 1.2 MHz switching frequency, adjustable soft start, integrated thermal protection and a -40 to +85C temperature range. It comes in a very low profile 8-lead Pb-free MSOP package (height less than 1.1 mm). Target applications include TFT-LCD displays, DSL modems, PCMCIA cards, Digital cameras, etc. Intersil Corp, Camberley, Surrey GU15 3YQ, UK.
